Vinyl Windows Installed
When this house was built, the windows were nailed to the framing and then the siding was put on over the window flanges.
Click on a picture to make it larger in order to see the detail.
This is the old aluminum window with one piece of trim removed.
You can see the siding covers the window flange.
Pull the nails and cut the siding in order to reveal the window flange.
Carefully remove the cut-off strip of siding, revealing the window flange.
Pull the flange nails and remove the aluminum window.
Plastic interior storm windows are glued to the surround.
Interior trim, surround and storm window removed.
Nail the cut-off strips back into place and caulk the saw cut.
Shim the new window so the reveal is straight, screw it into place, caulk around it, and pack insulation around it from the inside.
After the caulk dries, paint the siding around the new window.
Pre-paint the trim, put it on and caulk it.
The outside is done, but there's new interior trim to install.
I stained and Varithaned clear hemlock for the new surround and trim.
Hemlock is easy to work with and looks great.
This was the kitchen window. This house took 3 bedroom
windows, 1 bathroom window, a 5' by 8' double opening
living room window, and double hung french doors leading
onto the patio.
